Continuing the lead up to the release of Chalice of Caladriai (book 4 of The Arcanium Saga), today I’m going to tell you about the easiest part of writing this book!

The easiest parts to write in this one were the scenes when the kids arrive back in Arcania and you get to see Ayslenne’s contraptions — all the things she’s built in her yard and in her room. Those bits all just flowed so easily!

It was so much fun thinking of some of the modern conveniences someone who had lived most of her life in our world would miss when returning to a world that doesn’t have things like electricity or indoor plumbing, and then coming up with machines she could build with simple tools and supplies to approximate them.

I actually came up with a bunch more experiments for her but ended up cutting them early on because I felt they were slowing the story down too much. In one of the cut segments, Ayslenne was working on electricity using stuff from around her house and some metals she traded some of her “genuine Ordane artifacts” to Archimedes for, but I ended up going in a completely different direction with the Archimedes scene, so that had to change.

It was so much fun getting to know this new side of Ayslenne and see her growing interest in science and engineering develop as she tries to make life easier for for family and other Arcanians with her cool inventions. 🙂

Next week I’ll tell you about the thing I’m most excited for you to read!
